Pune: The long-awaited multi-level flyover at Chandni Chowk, which was constructed to alleviate traffic congestion in the area, will finally be officially opened on Saturday. The project, funded by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore, received contributions from the state government and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

A video of the flyover shot by a drone is now available on social media and has gone viral. The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Union Roads and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar on August 12.

Previously, NCP MP Supriya Sule had requested that the flyover be named after Senapati Bapat, as it serves as the entry point to Mulshi tehsil. She believes that naming it after Senapati Bapat would be a fitting tribute to his significant contributions to Mulshi.

Approximately 150,000 people pass through Chandni Chowk daily, making the construction of a new bridge necessary due to the frequent traffic bottlenecks experienced in the area. The previous bridge at Chandni Chowk was constructed by the PWD in 1992.

The old bridge was demolished in October 2022. Chandni Chowk traffic is causing local residents to complain, but they anticipate less congestion once the flyover is officially opened.
