Chandrakant Patil Reviews Pune Metro Expansion, Assures Support for Pending Projects
Chandrakant Patil, Maharashtra’s Minister of Higher and Technical Education, conducted a review of Pune Metro’s ongoing work and inspected the Mandai Metro station on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
During the visit, Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of MahaMetro, briefed the minister on the remaining work for Pune Metro’s 33 km Phase 1 and shared updates on passenger numbers and initiatives to increase ridership. The minister also traveled by metro from the District Court station to Mandai station, where he was welcomed by local MLA Hemant Rasane.
Significant developments include the commencement of contractor work on the PCMC-Nigdi route and the finalization of tenders for the Swargate-Katraj stretch. Approvals for seven corridors under Phase 2, including Vanaz-Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi-Wagholi, are pending with the central government, while other routes await Pune Municipal Corporation’s nod.
Expressing satisfaction with ongoing operations, Minister Patil highlighted the uninterrupted service since its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6, 2022, benefiting thousands of commuters. He assured continued state support and advocacy for pending projects with the central government.
