Chikhali-Moshi-Charholi-Pimpri-Chinchwad Society Federation Demands Immediate Removal Of Illegal Scrap Shops In Kudalewadi
Pimpri-Chinchwad : The Chikhali-Moshi-Charholi-Pimpri-Chinchwad Society Federation, led by its president Sanjivan Sangle, has demanded action against all illegal scrap shops, factories, and godowns operating in the Kudalevadi area. In a memorandum submitted to PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, the federation highlighted that 4,000–5,000 unauthorized scrap businesses are running in residential zones of Kudalewadi, Moshi, and Chikhali without any official permissions.
The memo outlines that these illegal establishments engage in hazardous activities such as metal shredding, plastic burning, and the incineration of other flammable materials, causing significant air and water pollution. Being located near riverbanks, these businesses contribute heavily to water contamination. Over the past year, the area has witnessed 40 fire incidents, including a recent major fire.
“Provide Citizens a Safe Environment”
Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge had raised this issue during a special Maharashtra Assembly session, drawing the attention of the Chief Minister and the House. The Chief Minister had directed authorities to take action. The federation has urged the administration to remove these illegal businesses promptly to protect residents from pollution and safety hazards.
“Act or Face Protests”
The Society Federation has lodged repeated written complaints with MLA Mahesh Landge, the Environment Minister, the Chief Minister, the Prime Minister, and the municipal corporation. However, the inaction by the administration and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has drawn sharp criticism. The federation has warned that if action is not taken within a month, they will resort to protests and other democratic methods to address the issue.
“There are thousands of illegal scrap shops, godowns, and businesses in Kudalewadi, Moshi, and Chikhali. Hazardous materials such as rubber, plastic, and other flammable substances are burned here, causing severe pollution. Despite repeated complaints, neither the municipal corporation nor the MPCB has taken any action. Immediate measures must be taken; otherwise, the federation will launch large-scale protests.” said Sanjivan Sangle, President, Chikhali-Moshi-Charholi-Pimpri-Chinchwad Housing Society Federation.
