Pune: CIDCO has made the decision to construct roads in 23 villages located in Panvel and Uran talukas, with an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore. This strategic move by CIDCO aims to facilitate the rapid development of these villages, which fall under the Naina area. In the coming month, tenders will be issued for these road construction projects.

Anil Diggikar, CIDCO’s Managing Director has stated that similar to the approach taken for Navi Mumbai International Airport, CIDCO will prioritize and expedite the road works in these areas. The ongoing development of the Navi Mumbai International Airport has prompted CIDCO to extend its efforts towards the development of 23 villages in Panvel and Uran talukas, which are situated to the east of the airport, as part of the Naina scheme. This region is also envisioned to become the third Mumbai.

While CIDCO plans to include the Pen, Khalapur, and Karjat areas of Raigad district in the future phases of the Naina scheme, only the 23 villages in Panvel and Uran talukas have been included in the initial phase. To address the concerns regarding the slow pace of development in the Naina area, CIDCO has taken into account the dissatisfaction expressed by local villagers. In order to ensure fair compensation for the land of project-affected farmers, CIDCO will now undertake the development of 12 nodes in the Naina area in a single phase rather than in a phased manner. This approach is expected to require an approximate expenditure of Rs 12,000 crore for the entire project.

The construction of a network of roads under all TPS schemes from 1 to 12 in the Naina area will involve the removal of all encroachments along the route. Stringent measures will be taken to ensure that no signal systems or roundabouts are present during the road construction process. Consequently, the roads will be designed in a straight line, with the incorporation of flyovers or underpasses where necessary. CIDCO will undertake the construction of these modern-design roads, which will be free from intersections and signals.
