Pune: The Viman Nagar Citizens Forum (VNCF) has raised concerns over several violations and deviations on the civil road near Pune Airport, which pose significant security and safety risks. In a detailed letter addressed to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the forum has demanded urgent attention and strict action to resolve these issues.

Key Concerns Highlighted:

  1. Laxity by PMC & AAI: Both organizations have been accused of negligence, with photographic evidence shared by residents.
  2. Garbage Issues: Despite warnings against littering by the Estate Office of the Air Force Station, garbage remains scattered along the road.
  3. Baggage Trolleys: Trolleys are being wheeled onto the civil road, raising risks of theft and damage to government property. Questions have been raised about their management and collection.
  4. Illegal Stall: A tea stall opposite Terminal 2, reportedly run by one Pawar, attracts crowds of staff, cab drivers, and others, causing congestion. The forum questions how PMC allowed the unauthorized stall to operate on a narrow, exclusive road.
  5. Road Cleanliness: Empty beer bottles and general litter highlight PMC’s failure to maintain cleanliness on a daily basis.
  6. Traffic Violations: Despite an agreement with traffic police to make the road one-way, both entry and exit are still allowed, especially at night, causing confusion and potential hazards.
  7. Security Personnel Negligence: Security staff deployed on the road are accused of being inattentive, talking on their phones, and neglecting their responsibilities.

The forum also criticized PMC’s arbitrary construction of the road, which has turned a quiet residential area into a hub of safety hazards, particularly with speeding cabs at night. Despite repeated requests, PMC has reportedly refused to engage in discussions with the forum, though the traffic police have shown some cooperation.
