Claim in Viral Video: ‘Cancer Waali Dal’! Toxic Dye Found in Black Lentils Sold in Himachal Pradesh Sparks Health Concerns
Nature offers us a wealth of food packed with vital nutrients, including proteins, vitamins, and minerals. While non-vegetarians have a wide array of protein sources, vegetarians typically depend on fewer options, with lentils being a key source.
Recently, a viral video has sparked worries regarding the authenticity of the well-known black lentils (kali dal) from Himachal, causing concern among many people.
In the viral video, a woman recounted her alarming experience after buying black lentils from Himachal Pradesh. After soaking them in water overnight, she noticed that the water turned black, and the lentils themselves changed color, showing a green hue underneath the black exterior.
It seemed that someone had just dyed the green moong dal black, as the color washed away during the soaking process.
This type of adulteration is not only a form of fraud but also a serious health threat. The dye used to color the lentils is illegal because it has the potential to cause cancer and other severe health issues.
Regrettably, there are claims that similar adulterated products, such as counterfeit salt and sugar, are being sold in Himachal Pradesh, risking public health.
