A couple spent two hours stranded atop their car as it was swept away by the swollen Karol river in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district, leading to a dramatic rescue by local fire officials.

A couple found themselves in a life-threatening situation on Sunday when their car was swept away by the flooded Karol river while attempting to cross an overflowing causeway in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district. For nearly two hours, the couple sat on the roof of their submerged vehicle, which had been pushed 1.5 km from the causeway due to the strong current.

The incident occurred when the couple, identified as Suresh Mistry and his wife, tried to cross the inundated causeway, unaware of the rising water levels. According to fire officer Kamal Patel, their car was nearly submerged with only the roof visible as it drifted away. Fortunately, the couple managed to escape the vehicle and climbed onto the roof, where they waited for rescue.

Despite initial attempts to save them, the rescue operation faced delays due to the strong currents. Crowds gathered along the riverbanks, anxiously watching as the couple remained stranded on their car roof. Eventually, as the water level subsided, local fire officials were able to reach the couple and bring them to safety. A rescue team equipped with a boat had been dispatched but was not needed as the couple was saved just in time.
