Cyber Fraud In Pune: Elderly Woman From Wanowrie Duped Of ₹14 Lakh On Pretext Of TV Repair
Pune: Cyber fraudsters tricked a senior citizen from Wanowrie into losing ₹14 lakh by posing as television repair service providers. The 65-year-old victim had contacted what she believed was the customer service number of the TV manufacturer after her device malfunctioned.
Unbeknownst to her, the fraudsters had manipulated the contact details online, diverting calls to their own number. After she reached out for assistance, they sent her a fraudulent link, asking for personal and banking details. Using this information, the scammers siphoned ₹14 lakh from her bank account via online transactions.
Upon realizing the fraud, the elderly woman lodged a complaint at Wanowrie police station. The cybercrime team is investigating the case under the supervision of Inspector Govind Jadhav.
Meanwhile, police have warned citizens to remain vigilant against online frauds, including investment scams and fake work-from-home opportunities, urging them not to share personal or banking information with unknown sources.
