Cyber Thieves Dupe Pune Citizens Of ₹75 Lakh With Fake Stock Market Investment Schemes
Pune, November 19, 2024: A surge in fraudulent activities has been reported in Pune, with cyber thieves cheating citizens of ₹75 lakh by luring them to invest in the stock market. In separate incidents, unsuspecting individuals were deceived into depositing money into fake accounts, resulting in significant financial losses.
One senior citizen from the Pashan area was duped of ₹15.45 lakh after receiving a message on his mobile phone inviting him to invest in the stock market. The thieves promised high returns, prompting the victim to deposit money into their accounts over time. However, when the promised refunds failed to materialize, the senior citizen realized he had been scammed and filed a complaint with the Chatuhshrungi police station.
In another incident, a resident of Warje area was cheated of ₹17.36 lakh by thieves using a similar modus operandi. A case has been registered, and Police Inspector Badakh of the crime branch is investigating.
Additionally, an elderly woman from the Pashan area reported that ₹1 million was stolen from her bank account after thieves obtained confidential information. She has filed a complaint with the Chatuhshrungi police station.
A youth from Chandannagar area was also deceived of ₹19.38 lakh by thieves promising lucrative returns on stock market investments. The victim has lodged a complaint with the Chandannagar police station, and Senior Police Inspector Mane is handling the investigation.
These incidents highlight the growing concern of cybercrime in Pune, particularly in regards to fake investment schemes. Citizens are advised to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited investment offers and to verify the authenticity of such proposals before making any financial transactions.
The Pune Police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities and to be vigilant when sharing personal financial information. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to track down the perpetrators and prevent further instances of cybercrime.
