Despite Maharashtra Deputy CM & Pune’s guardian minister Ajit Pawar ordering strict action against illegal rooftop resto-bars operating in Pune city, the illegal rooftop resto-bars continue to run.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) claimed that the collector’s office had sent notices to multiple joints of this type; however, an official from the collector’s office categorically denied the claim. In order to take tough measures against illegal rooftop restaurants, Pawar had also ordered the creation of a committee.

But as of yet, no panel has been established. Following a discussion about the issue of illegal rooftop restaurants in Pune, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met with Pawar and gave him his instructions.

On November 16, municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar informed that a committee will be formed with officials from the state excise department, PMC and district collector to address illegal rooftop restaurants.

The collector’s office has sent notices to rooftop restaurants, according to a PMC official. As a result, the collector’s office will have information about this. There is no information on this from PMC’s construction department. However, according to a district collectorate official in Pune, PMC is in charge of issuing notices to illegal constructions.

The Building Permission Department of PMC issues licenses for construction projects in the city. Additionally, that department takes action if they violate the law. In this case, the collector’s office is irrelevant. Hence, the collector’s office has not sent any such notice to the owners of such restaurants.
