Legendary actor, 89, under close monitoring in ICU after his health reportedly deteriorated
Veteran actor Dharmendra’s health has raised nationwide concern after reports on Monday suggested that the 89-year-old star has been put on ventilator support at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. The senior actor, who was admitted over a week ago following complaints of breathlessness, is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under continuous observation.
On Monday evening, Hema Malini was spotted arriving at the hospital to check on her husband’s condition. While briefly interacting with the media, she shared a hopeful update, saying, “We’re praying for his speedy recovery,” indicating that the family is staying positive as he undergoes treatment.
Earlier reports had suggested that Dharmendra was responding well to treatment and was stable. However, fresh updates from hospital sources on November 10 indicated a sudden deterioration, prompting doctors to shift him to ventilator support to stabilise his breathing.
Dharmendra, who turns 90 next month, has remained professionally active despite age-related ailments. This year, he underwent an eye graft procedure and had appeared publicly on multiple occasions, including film promotions and personal engagements. Known as one of Indian cinema’s most loved matinee idols, his filmography spans iconic titles such as Sholay, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Dream Girl.
The actor was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and will next appear in Ikkis, featuring Agastya Nanda in the lead role. Dharmendra, who remains active on social media, had recently posted a picture of himself, writing, “Aajkal gham-e-dauran se door, gham-e-duniya se door… apne hi nashe mein jhoomta hoon,” a caption that received thousands of reactions from his fans.
As news about his condition spread, fans across the country took to social media to pray for his recovery. Many recalled his decades-long contributions to Indian cinema and expressed their affection for the actor who has remained a beloved figure across generations.
Dharmendra continues to be closely monitored as doctors work to stabilise his condition. The coming days will be crucial, and the family has requested privacy while expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support pouring in from admirers.
