"Dindahaade English Bolna Seekhen’: Liquor Shop Owner’s Bizarre Sales Stunt Results in ₹10,000 Fine!
In an unusual attempt to boost sales, a liquor shop owner in Madhya Pradesh resorted to highlighting people’s tendency to become more expressive after drinking. However, the move backfired, landing him with a hefty fine of ₹10,000, officials reported.
The incident unfolded in Nachan Kheda, Burhanpur district, where the shop owner put up a provocative banner that read, “Dindahaade English bolna sikhe” (Learn to speak English during the day). An arrow below the message directed passersby to the alcohol shop. While it remains unclear if this strategy drove a surge in sales, a photo of the banner went viral on social media, sparking a mix of amusement and criticism.
The viral image quickly caught the attention of the district administration. On Saturday, Burhanpur District Collector Bhavya Mittal instructed the excise department to take appropriate action against the shop owner. Excise officials subsequently served a notice to the licensee of the shop.
In his defense, the shop owner pleaded innocence, claiming the banner was placed on private land approximately 40 to 50 feet from his shop. He suggested that someone else had put up the banner as part of a conspiracy against him. Despite his explanations, officials found his response unsatisfactory.
Ultimately, the authorities deemed the banner a violation of the conditions of his liquor license and imposed a fine of ₹10,000. The incident highlights the risks of unconventional marketing tactics and serves as a reminder of the regulations governing alcohol sales.
As the story continues to circulate online, it underscores the importance of responsible advertising and adherence to local laws, especially in sensitive industries such as alcohol.
