Mohali authorities have launched an investigation after a dog’s severed head was found in a fridge during a raid on a fast food factory in Mattaur. The discovery was made during a two-day crackdown on unhygienic food production, leading to the seizure and destruction of large quantities of spoilt food.

On Sunday, following complaints from locals, officials raided a factory producing momos and spring rolls from a residential house. Videos had surfaced online showing workers using dirty water and rotten vegetables in food preparation. The factory, operating for two years, supplied its products across Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Kalka. During the raid, officials also found frozen meat, a crusher machine, and reused cooking oil.
The crackdown continued on Monday when municipal authorities seized and destroyed nearly 60 kg of foul-smelling frozen chicken from local shops. Samples of momos, spring rolls, and chutney were collected for lab testing.
During one of the raids, officials discovered a severed dog’s head in a fridge. While locals suspected it might have been used in food production, authorities clarified that it was allegedly meant for consumption by the factory workers. The head has been sent to the Veterinary Department for further examination to determine if dog meat was used in the factory’s products.
The District Health Officer (DHO) inspected the premises and found multiple violations, including the use of unhygienic ingredients and unregistered vendors. Action has been recommended against the factory owner and those involved in its operation.
Mohali Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangita Jaina confirmed that a report has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and police for further action. Assistant Food Safety Commissioner Dr. Amrit Warring stated that legal steps would be taken once the lab test results are available.
