Don't Miss Out: Western Railway Launches 'Winter Special' Trains for Coldplay Events – Full Guide Here
Western Railway is planning to operate two special trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26 to accommodate fans traveling for the much-anticipated Coldplay concerts at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat. These trains are designated as “winter specials” following a directive from the Railway Board to meet the increased demand associated with the events, as confirmed by an official on Thursday.
Tickets for the special trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad can be found on BookMyShow. However, officials aren’t certain if these trains will only be for concert ticket holders or if they’ll also be open to the general public.
The special trains will leave Bandra Terminus at 6:15 AM, arriving in Ahmedabad at 2:00 PM on January 25 and at 1:00 PM on January 26. For the return trips, departures are set for 1:40 AM on January 26 and 12:50 AM on January 27, with both trains expected to arrive back at Bandra Terminus at around 8:40 AM and 8:30 AM, respectively. The trains will make stops at Borivali, Vapi, Udhna, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Gertapur in both directions.
Officials have observed that airfares for flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad have increased significantly due to the concerts, and regular train services on that route are completely booked. Considering Coldplay’s large fan base and previous experiences during high-demand events like the Cricket World Cup, they expect that even the special trains may not be sufficient to accommodate all the fans.
For the concerts taking place at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 21, the event organizers have set up Full Tariff Rate (FTR) suburban trains to help attendees get to the venue.
These FTR trains will operate between Goregaon and Nerul stations, stopping at Bandra, Andheri, Wadala Road, Chembur, and Jainagar stations. On January 18 and 19, the trains will leave Goregaon at 2:00 PM, arriving in Nerul at 3:23 PM, and will return at 11:04 PM, reaching Goregaon by 12:30 AM. On January 21, the train will depart Goregaon at 2:50 PM and arrive in Nerul at 6:18 PM, with the return trip starting at 10:50 PM and concluding at 12:15 AM.
