It is exciting to hear about the introduction of double-decker buses in Pune. These new buses are truly impressive, boasting features like being electric-powered, equipped with air conditioning for a comfortable ride, and having excellent suspension to ensure a smooth journey for passengers. One of the standout features of these buses is the presence of two staircases, making boarding and alighting more convenient for passengers. Additionally, the implementation of digital ticketing is a modern touch that enhances the overall passenger experience. In terms of capacity, these buses can accommodate a large number of passengers, with seating available for up to 70 individuals and standing room for an additional 40 passengers. The design of the buses, inspired by the iconic London buses, adds a touch of uniqueness and style to the public transportation system in Pune. Moreover, the cost-effectiveness of these buses is noteworthy, as they are set to operate at just Rs. 6 per kilometer, making them a financially viable option compared to the existing contractor-operated buses. Overall, the decision to introduce these double-decker buses is a significant step that will benefit both passengers and the environment by providing efficient and comfortable transportation services.
The bus purchase decision was taken in December 2022 when Omprakash Bakoria was the president. It was also approved by the board of directors. But then everything stopped. It is likely to take at least another six months for the bus to actually run. These buses will not run on ‘BRT’ routes
How will the new double decker be?
