Pune: After the successful launch of the E-bus service ‘Shivai’ on the Pune-Ahmednagar route from June 1, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) aims to start e-buses on three more routes connecting Pune with Solapur, Kolhapur and Aurangabad.

The government body is focussing on building infrastructure for charging, maintenance and repair work of the e-buses in these cities.

The MSRTC will be getting 1,000 electric buses in a phased manner under the central government’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme.

The first slot of 150 electric buses is expected either by June-end or by the first week of July.

“Out of 150 electric buses which MSRTC will be getting, 50 will be operating from the Pune division. Once the basic infrastructure is completed, we will start services for the places like Solapur, Kolhapur and Aurangabad,” Ramakant Gaikwad, MSRTC Pune divisional controller.
