In a devastating turn of events, a 32-year-old woman from Uttara Kannada, Karnataka, faces murder charges after allegedly throwing her six-year-old son into a canal known to harbor crocodiles. The incident unfolded on Saturday night in Halamadi village, revealing a heart-wrenching tale of domestic turmoil and tragedy.

The woman, identified as Savitri, reportedly engaged in frequent clashes with her husband, Ravi Kumar (36), particularly concerning their son Vinod’s hearing and speech impairment. Following yet another heated argument on Saturday, overwhelmed by emotions, Savitri took her son to a nearby canal and callously cast him into its crocodile-infested waters.

According to police accounts, the tragic incident occurred around 9 pm, with the canal connecting directly to the crocodile-infested River Kali.

Savitri confessed to authorities that her husband had persistently tormented her, even suggesting that she dispose of their son by throwing him into the canal. Prompted by this alleged abuse, Savitri’s actions led to a harrowing outcome.

Local residents raised the alarm, prompting an extensive search operation involving fire officials throughout the night.

Tragically, the child’s lifeless body was discovered the following morning, bearing signs of crocodile attacks, including a missing right arm and multiple bite marks.

Both Savitri and Ravi have been arrested, facing charges of murder as legal proceedings commence. Despite claims of mental torture by Savitri, who accused her husband of culpability in their son’s death, the investigation unfolds amid a backdrop of profound sorrow and disbelief in the community.
