Erandwane person loses Rs 35,000 in cyber theft; Alankar Police registers case - Pune Pulse

Pune: A person living in Erandwane lost Rs 35,000 to an online fraudster in an online scam on November 3, Thursday.

As per information,  the complainant received a call from an unknown caller stating that his previous month’s electricity bill was overdue. The accused made the victim download an app called ‘Electricity APK’, made a video call to the complainant and, by asking & retrieving the 16-digit number and the CVV code of the debit card of the plaintiff, withdrew Rs 35 thousand & swindled the plaintiff.

Hence, a case has been registered against the online fraudster at Alankar Police Station under Sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 66(K) (D) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Further investigation into the case is going on.
