FDA Pune Cracks Down on 68 Fast-Food Chain Outlets; Issues Notices to 49 Establishments

Out of 68 joints of fast-food brands inspected by FDA Pune, the authority has sent notices to 49 establishments till now.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Arjun Bhujbal, Joint Commissioner, FDA Pune, gave more information, he said, “The FDA Pune has started inspecting & taking action on fast-food chains. So far, we have inspected 68 fast food joints of several popular fast-food brands. Out of these, 49 joints have been issued notices and 31 food samples have been taken. Out of the notices issued to 49 joints, responses of some establishments have come while 22 responses are awaited. The next action about this is pending which will be completed this week.”

Arjun Bhujbal further said “Notices for improvement have been sent. If no response comes for the notices, then further relevant action like suspension, adjudication etc will be taken.”

This comes in the wake of the fake cheese controversy at a popular fast-food brand McDonald’s outlet in Ahmednagar.

Some days ago, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) had demanded that the government impose a complete ban on the business operations of the American fast food giant McDonald’s –

The traders’ had demanded this citing reports that “fake cheese” was discovered in a burger sold in Maharashtra.
