Zomato has published its year-end report for 2024, offering intriguing insights into the food ordering habits of Indians. In addition to detailing the trends in food orders throughout the year, the report also includes statistics related to dining out.
A culinary enthusiast in Bengaluru made headlines by spending an extraordinary sum during one visit to a restaurant. As reported by Zomato, this unidentified diner incurred a bill exceeding ₹5 lakh.
During the period from January 1 to December 6, 2024, Zomato facilitated the reservation of more than 1 crore tables in India, totaling 1,25,55,417 to be exact. Among the notable days, Father’s Day stood out as one of the busiest, with 84,866 individuals treating their fathers to a delightful lunch or dinner.
This year, biryani has reaffirmed its status as the most beloved dish in India. According to Zomato, there were more than 90 million biryani orders in 2024, which translates to an impressive average of over three biryanis ordered every second throughout the year. This clearly illustrates that India is a country passionate about biryani.
Delhi has emerged as the leading destination for budget-conscious food enthusiasts. Residents of Delhi managed to save ₹195 crore on their dining expenses via Zomato. While Bengaluru and Mumbai came close, they were unable to surpass New Delhi in terms of savings.
Biryani ranked just behind pizza in the list of most-ordered items on Zomato, with the food delivery service successfully delivering over 50 million pizzas. Specifically, Zomato reported a total of 58,446,908 pizzas delivered this year.
In the realm of beverages, India exhibits a distinct preference. Tea, which serves as a morning staple in numerous households, emerged as the most popular choice on Zomato, surpassing coffee once more. In 2024, Indians placed a remarkable 77,76,725 orders for tea, while coffee garnered 74,32,856 orders.
