From April 1, Uber Auto Drivers In Pune And Pimpri-Chinchwad To Operate As Per Meter Rates
Starting April 1, 2025, Uber auto drivers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will operate as per meter rates, similar to regular auto-rickshaws.
On February 18, 2025, Uber signed a new agreement with millions of auto drivers, altering its legal relationship with them. Instead of following an aggregator model, Uber will now function under a Software as a Service (SAAS) model.
Under this agreement, Uber will not take any commission from auto drivers. However, drivers must pay a fixed daily software usage fee of ₹19. Uber will not interfere in transactions between drivers and passengers, and auto drivers must follow government regulations.
The agreement states that Uber will no longer have an employer-employee or service provider-customer relationship with drivers. As a result, labor laws and consumer protection laws will no longer apply to Uber in this context.
Key Change:
The fares displayed on the Uber app will no longer be binding on auto drivers; they will be indicative only. The final fare will be decided by the driver.
From April 1, all Uber auto drivers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will start trips using the meter and charge passengers accordingly. This change eliminates surge pricing during peak hours or rain, which previously led to higher fares for passengers and lower fares during off-peak hours, impacting drivers.
Although Uber has changed the agreement, there are no visible updates in the mobile app yet. Changes aligning with the new agreement may be introduced soon.
To spread awareness, auto drivers are keeping copies of the agreement in their rickshaws to inform passengers about these changes.
