Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Residents To Form Human Chain Against Mula-Mutha Riverfront Project At Pimple Saudagar On March 23
Pimpri-Chinchwad residents are set to stage a protest against the Mula-Mutha Riverfront Development Project, citing severe ecological concerns. Citizens argue that the project threatens biodiversity, with thousands of trees along the riverbanks at risk of being felled. These trees provide habitat for various bird and animal species, and their removal could lead to irreversible environmental damage.
Protesters also highlight the risk of flooding due to the narrowing of riverbanks with artificial embankments. Additionally, they criticize the project for prioritizing beautification over addressing the real issue—the discharge of untreated sewage into major rivers like Pavana, Indrayani, Mula, and Mutha.
To voice their opposition, residents will form a human chain on March 23, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Kokane Chowk, Pimple Saudagar Rahatani. The event aims to raise awareness and urge authorities to reconsider the project’s impact on the environment.
