From October 1, IRCTC Ticket Booking Rules to Change: Aadhaar-Verified Passengers to Get Priority
Indian Railways has announced a major change in its online ticket booking system, effective from October 1, 2025. Under the new rule, only passengers with Aadhaar verification will be allowed to book tickets during the first 15 minutes of online reservation on the IRCTC website and mobile app.
The move aims to enhance transparency, security, and passenger convenience, ensuring that genuine travelers get priority in the initial booking phase. Until now, agents and automated software often secured seats quickly, leaving ordinary passengers at a disadvantage.
No Change for Reservation Counters
At railway station counters, ticket booking timings remain unchanged. However, official railway agents will not be allowed to book tickets for the first 10 minutes after opening of reservations, giving Aadhaar-verified users and general passengers a clear advantage over agents.
Technical Upgrades and Awareness Drive
The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and IRCTC have been directed to implement the required technical upgrades. The Railways Ministry has also instructed all zones to run awareness campaigns so that passengers are well-informed about the new booking rules.
Benefits for Passengers
Railway officials say the biggest benefit will go to passengers who often struggle to get confirmed tickets due to agent bookings. Aadhaar linking will not only prevent fraud and fake accounts but also give genuine travelers a fair chance during the initial booking slot.
With this reform, e-ticketing is expected to become more secure, transparent, and passenger-friendly, marking a significant step toward strengthening Aadhaar-based ticketing in the future.
