Once driving tempos on Kanpur’s streets, Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma is now preparing to launch India’s newest airline, proving that ambition and persistence can rewrite destiny.

The story of Shankh Air is not just about a new airline entering India’s aviation market. It is the story of a man who began his life at the lowest rung of the economic ladder and dared to imagine a future that many would call impossible. Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma, founder and chairman of Shankh Air, has transformed himself from a tempo driver in Kanpur into the owner of India’s newest airline.

Born into a middle-class family in Uttar Pradesh, Shravan’s early life was far from glamorous. He openly admits that academics never interested him much. Life pushed him into work at an early stage, and he took up jobs that were available around him. He worked as a loader, drove tempos, and took up small responsibilities just to support himself and his family. Those years gave him an understanding of hardship and struggle that later shaped his business mindset.

He once said that a person who rises from the bottom sees every layer of society. From bicycles to buses, from trains to tempos, he experienced it all first-hand. That experience made him grounded and deeply aware of how difficult mobility and opportunity can be for ordinary people.

Like many first-generation entrepreneurs, Shravan experimented with multiple small businesses. Some failed, some taught him valuable lessons. His turning point came in 2014, when he entered the cement business. This step gave him financial stability and business confidence. From cement, he expanded into the steel sector, where he found success. Slowly but steadily, he built a strong business foundation.

His growth did not stop there. He expanded into mining and transportation, setting up a fleet of trucks that strengthened his presence in logistics. Over time, these ventures created the capital base and operational confidence required to think bigger. What started as survival slowly turned into ambition.

About four years ago, the idea of launching an airline began to take shape in his mind. For someone who once drove tempos, aviation seemed like a distant world. Yet Shravan believed that dreams do not need permission from background or status. His goal was not just to start an airline, but to create Uttar Pradesh’s first locally-grown airline and make air travel more accessible to ordinary citizens.

Shankh Air was born from this vision. The airline has already received its No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and is expected to begin operations in early 2026. According to the plan, the airline will start with a small fleet of three Airbus aircraft. The initial focus will be on connecting Lucknow with major metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

This approach shows careful planning. Instead of expanding aggressively, the airline aims to grow step by step, building reliability and passenger trust first. It reflects Shravan’s own journey, slow, steady and disciplined.

What makes his story powerful is not just success, but the emotional shift behind it. Coming from a modest background, he admits that dreaming big was once seen as unrealistic. In many households, ambition beyond survival is discouraged. Shravan chose to break that mental barrier.

His story resonates with millions of Indians who work in informal sectors and believe that certain industries are out of reach for them. Aviation, in particular, is seen as a space reserved for the elite and large corporations. Shankh Air challenges that perception.

Beyond business, Shravan wants to make flying affordable and reachable for the masses. He understands how difficult travel can be for ordinary families because he once lived that reality. His airline carries not just passengers, but his own journey of transformation.

From driving tempos in Kanpur to owning an airline that will soon take off across Indian skies, Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma’s life stands as a reminder that backgrounds do not define limits. Courage, patience and consistency do.

Shankh Air is not just an airline. It is the symbol of a man who refused to let his past decide his future.
