FSSAI Orders Patanjali Foods to Recall Red Chilli Powder Over Safety Norms
FSSAI directs Patanjali foods to call for a specific batch of red chilli powder for non-compliance of food and safety standards, regulation, 2011. The company has done the regulatory filing and has confirmed the recall regarding the entire batch of Red Chilli Powder.
Giving a tough competition to the FMCG market in India, Patanjali foods have a coverage to almost all the households. Every kitchen today has its essentials which comes from Patanjali foods. However, Patanjali was also under scrutiny and highlighted most of the time. Raising eyes again, Patanjali has once again been able to come under highlights. But this time, because of non-compliance of the safety standards in food items, as reported by the sources. The red chilli powder is believed to violate the norms set by FSSAI.
FSSAI has instructed the company to call off its specific batch of red chilli powder from the market since it does not adhere to the regulation set by FSSAI. The chilli powder is said not to be coming up to the standards of the FSSAI regulations. Patanjali has said to do the regulatory filing.
The company was incorporated by Baba Ramdev in 1986 under the name “Patanjali”. The company in a regulatory filing, has confirmed the recall, citing non-compliance with food safety norms. FSSAI has directed Patanjali Foods to address the recall of the entire batch of implicated Red Chilli Powder (packed) of Batch No. – AJD2400012 due to non-conformance of Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011″, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Patanjali Foods deals with processing of oilseeds, food products from soya and value-added products. Besides, it is also engaged in the FMCG business for healthy products. The company is also known for its kitchen products from spices to snacks. As per the sources Patanjali Foods has claimed 21 per cent increase in standalone net profit to Rs 308.97 crore for the September quarter. Its net profit stands at Rs 254.53 crore.
However, this is not the only case against Patanjali. Prior to this also it has faced such cases. Dabur dragged Patanjali to court for its statement against Chyawanprash.
