Got 10 WhatsApp calls in 15 minutes, reveals son of Agra teacher who died after receiving hoax calls
A government school teacher in Agra passed away from a heart attack last week after receiving calls from fraudsters impersonating police officers. They claimed that her 20-year-old daughter was involved in a sex scandal. According to her son, she received 10 calls within just 15 minutes. The scammers demanded an initial payment of Rs 1 lakh and threatened to release an alleged video of her daughter if she didn’t comply.
Malti Verma, 58, experienced anxiety and chest pain on September 30 after these calls. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest.
Deepanshu Rajput, the son of the junior high school teacher, shared what happened. He said, “My mother worked at a school in Achhnera, Agra. On September 30, she got a WhatsApp call around noon. The caller claimed my sister was involved in a sex scandal and threatened her. He pretended to be a police inspector and had a picture of himself in a police uniform. After that, she received about 10 calls from them in just 15 minutes.”
Rajput mentioned that when he looked up the phone numbers, he discovered they had a different country code. He tried to reassure his mother that they were scammers and that his sister was fine at college. “I told her not to worry, but she was already very stressed, and her health declined quickly after those calls. To our knowledge, she never had any heart problems. We waited until the final rites were completed before filing a police complaint on Thursday,” he said.
Agra Police Officials stated stated that a case has been registered under the IT Act, and an investigation is currently in progress.
