Pimpri-Chinchwad’s New Police Headquarters to Finally Get a Permanent Home

In a major development for Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area, the state government has sanctioned a 20-hectare land parcel in Tathawade for the construction of the much-anticipated Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate headquarters. This approval comes after Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey presented the request to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The formal land allocation was granted on Thursday, October 10, marking a significant step forward for the city’s police force.

Long-Standing Demand for a Dedicated Space

The demand for a dedicated headquarters for the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has been ongoing since its establishment by the state government in August 2018. Initially, the commissionerate operated from a Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) school building in Chinchwad. Later, a temporary headquarters was set up in Nigdi. Despite these interim arrangements, the need for a permanent facility became increasingly evident.

New Infrastructure Plans

The newly allotted land, currently owned by the animal husbandry department, will now be transferred to the police. The state government has also approved the establishment of four new police stations in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area—Kalewadi, Bavdhan, Sant Tukaramnagar, and Dapodi—to strengthen law enforcement in this rapidly growing region.

The proposed headquarters in Tathawade will not only house administrative offices but also serve as a hub for various police units. Plans include the construction of the DCP (Headquarters) office, motor vehicle department, dog squad, police colony, parade ground, Quick Response Team (QRT) office, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), a shooting range, a school for the wards of police officers, and a clinic.

Past Land Allocations and Recent Developments

Before the latest land allocation, the state government had already approved 3.39 hectares of land in Chikhali for the commissionerate and 15 acres in Wakad for the residences of senior police officials and the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Zone-II). The additional 20 hectares in Tathawade will now facilitate the construction of a full-fledged police headquarters, addressing long-pending infrastructure needs.

New Police Stations for Enhanced Policing

The addition of the four new police stations will divide responsibilities across regions to ensure better law enforcement. The new Kalewadi police station will be carved out of the existing Wakad police station, Bavdhan from the Hinjewadi police station, Sant Tukaramnagar from Pimpri police station, and Dapodi from Bhosari police station.

Enhancing Fleet for Law Enforcement

In a related event, 57 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) were added to the Pimpri-Chinchwad police fleet in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. These additions are expected to bolster the mobility and effectiveness of the police force in tackling crimes and emergencies.

With this new land allocation and the comprehensive infrastructure plans, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate is set to enhance its capacity to maintain law and order in the growing urban expanse of Pune’s twin city.
