Guidelines for Honouring the Tricolour This Independence Day
These guidelines ensure that the tricolour is treated with the reverence and respect it deserves, especially as we celebrate Independence Day.
Dos:
- Material and Make:
The Indian national flag must be made of handspun and handwoven wool, cotton, silk, or khadi. The ratio of the flag’s length to its height should be 3:2. - Correct Display:
Ensure that the saffron band is always at the top when displaying the flag. The flag should be hoisted in a position of honor and treated with dignity.
Don’ts:
- No Drapery Usage:
The national flag should not be used as a drapery in any form, including during private funerals. - Avoid Incorporating into Clothing:
The flag should not be used as a part of any costume, uniform, or clothing item. It should also not be printed on cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, or any other dress material. - No Ground Contact:
The flag should never touch the ground, the floor, or trail in water. Allowing this to happen is considered disrespectful. - No Vehicle or Building Cover:
The flag should not be draped over vehicles or used to cover buildings.
Happy Independence Day!
