Highway Horror: Minor Girl Sexually Assaulted, Family Robbed by Armed Bikers on Pune Highway
Two men on a motorcycle attacked a parked vehicle en route to Pandharpur, looted gold jewellery, and sexually assaulted a minor girl before fleeing the scene
A shocking incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday on a highway near Pune, where two unidentified men on a motorcycle sexually assaulted a minor girl and looted her family at knifepoint. The attack occurred around 4:15 am, when members of two families were on their way from a village in Pune district to the Pandharpur temple town in Solapur.
According to police officials, the car had been parked near a roadside tea stall after the driver felt drowsy and stopped briefly to relieve himself. In that moment, the two assailants approached the stationary vehicle, brandished sharp weapons, and threatened the occupants. They allegedly stole gold jewellery from three women passengers, forcibly dragged the minor girl from the car, and sexually assaulted her before fleeing on their motorcycle.
A 73-year-old tea vendor, who witnessed the crime, could not provide substantial details due to age-related limitations, police said.
Pune (Rural) Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill confirmed the filing of a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. “Eight dedicated police teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the accused. A manhunt is underway,” he said.
The terrified victims alerted local authorities after the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with officials combing the area and collecting CCTV footage and forensic evidence in a bid to identify the attackers.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, raising urgent concerns about highway safety and the need for better patrolling in early morning hours, particularly in remote stretches.
