How to Change Your UPI PIN? A Simple Guide and When You Should Reset It
Digital payments have become a normal part of everyday life. Whether you are paying a bill, sending money to family, or making a quick purchase, UPI allows you to complete transactions in just a few seconds using your smartphone. While this system is fast and convenient, keeping your payment details secure is equally important. One simple way to strengthen your digital security is by updating your UPI PIN regularly. Changing it from time to time can help protect your account and reduce the chances of unauthorized access or fraud.
How to Change Your UPI PIN
If you want to update your UPI PIN, the process is straightforward and can be done directly through your payment app. Most popular UPI platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, and Paytm follow a very similar process. You can change your PIN by following these steps:
1. Open your UPI payment app and go to the Profile section.
2. Select the bank account for which you want to change the PIN.
3. Tap on the “Change UPI PIN” option.
4. Enter your current UPI PIN, then create a new PIN of your choice.
5. Complete the process by verifying your identity using OTP or debit card authentication.
Once these steps are completed, your new UPI PIN will be successfully updated.
When and Why You Should Change Your UPI PIN
Setting a UPI PIN once is not enough to ensure long-term security. Regular updates help keep your financial information safe. Here are a few important points to remember:
Always remember your UPI PIN and keep it confidential.
It is recommended to change your PIN every 3 to 6 months.
Avoid using simple or easily guessable numbers as your PIN.
Never share your PIN with anyone, even if they claim to be from the bank.
If you suspect that someone might know your PIN, change it immediately. Also stay cautious of suspicious links, messages, or fraudulent calls.
What to Do If You Forget Your UPI PIN
Forgetting your UPI PIN is quite common, but it can be reset easily through your app. Follow these steps to create a new one:
1. Open your UPI app and go to the Bank Account section.
2. Choose the “Forgot UPI PIN” or “Reset UPI PIN” option.
3. Enter the last six digits of your linked debit card along with the expiry date (MM/YY).
4. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter it in the app.
5. After verification, you can set a new UPI PIN.
Keep in mind that to reset your PIN, your mobile number must be registered with the bank, and you must have access to your linked debit card.
