Pune, 20 March: In a relief for vehicle owners, the deadline for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on older vehicles has been extended to June 30, 2025. The previous deadline of April 30, 2025, has been pushed back due to delays in the installation process.
The extension applies to vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, as authorities noted that the implementation of HSRP has not met expectations. These tamper-proof plates, designed to enhance vehicle security and curb theft, are a key component of the government’s efforts to improve road safety.
Despite the additional time, a significant number of older vehicles remain without HSRP. To address this, the authorities have instructed Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and Deputy Regional Transport Offices (DRTOs) to intensify public awareness campaigns. These initiatives aim to inform vehicle owners about the importance and necessity of installing HSRPs.
To expedite the installation process, regional authorities plan to engage with key stakeholders, including vehicle dealers and representatives from transport associations such as taxi, autorickshaw, bus, and truck operators. These discussions will focus on ensuring widespread compliance and highlighting the benefits of HSRPs.
Authorities emphasize that HSRPs play a crucial role in improving vehicle security and assisting law enforcement in tackling vehicle-related crimes. The plates’ unique identification features make them resistant to tampering and counterfeiting, facilitating better tracking of vehicles.
Vehicle owners are encouraged to visit their nearest RTO or the official RTO website for more information and to schedule appointments for HSRP installation. The deadline extension provides ample time for compliance while allowing authorities to enhance awareness efforts, ensuring a smooth transition
