Pune police have apprehended a 42-year-old ice cream vendor, Devilal Shankarlal Ahir, for possessing opium valued at ₹56.9 lakh. Ahir, originally from Rajasthan and residing in Pune’s Katraj area for the past 20 years, was arrested in Ambegaon on Saturday morning following a tip-off to Bharti Vidyapeeth police station official Yogesh Mandhare.

During the operation, authorities seized 2.845 kilograms of opium, along with Ahir’s mobile phone and a two-wheeler, where the drugs were reportedly hidden. Senior Inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad stated that initial investigations suggest Ahir sourced the opium from Rajasthan and may have been selling it to local drug users.

Police have registered a case against Ahir at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further inquiries are underway to identify any accomplices in the operation.
