The recent Taste Atlas list of the “World’s 100 Most Iconic Ice Creams” features five Indian varieties, highlighting the country’s rich and varied frozen treat offerings.
Topping the list is K. Rustom & Co. in Mumbai, a beloved establishment dating back to 1953, renowned for its ice cream sandwiches. Their Mango Ice Cream Sandwich stands out, combining sweet and tangy mango ice cream between two crisp wafers. This Mumbai favorite has garnered global acclaim for its unique and delightful flavor.
Adding to the list is Bengaluru’s Corner House, famous for its “Death by Chocolate” sundae. This indulgent dessert layers cake, ice cream, chocolate sauce, almonds, and a cherry. Established in 1982, Corner House has become a local favorite, celebrated for the richness and depth of its chocolate ice cream.
In addition to these highlights, three more Indian ice creams have earned their place on the prestigious list. Naturals Ice Cream’s ‘Tender Coconut’ is a standout, crafted by Raghunandan Srinivas Kamath, whose chain now spans over 130 locations across India. Known for its use of fresh fruits, Naturals’ tender coconut flavor blends creamy coconut with a rich base, earning it a notable spot on the list.
Apsara Ice Creams contributes with its Guava Ice Cream, known for its distinct tanginess. Founded by Nemchand Shah in 1971, this Mumbai parlor has gained recognition for its homemade ice creams made from seasonal fruits, free of artificial flavors and preservatives.
Finally, Ideal’s “Gadbad Ice Cream” from Lalbagh, Manguluru, is also featured. Served in a tumbler with a combination of fruits, nuts, and jellies, this ice cream’s three-flavor medley has secured a place on the global list.
