Indian Railways to Launch All-in-One 'Super App' for Passengers by December
Indian Railways plans to launch a comprehensive “super app” by the end of December, combining several passenger services into one platform. The app aims to improve convenience for travelers by integrating ticket booking, platform passes, train tracking, and other services in a single place. The application is currently under development by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and will work alongside the existing IRCTC systems.
According to officials, IRCTC will continue as the interface between CRIS and passengers for ticket purchases, while integration between the new app and IRCTC’s existing systems is underway. Currently, railway passengers rely on various separate apps for services: IRCTC Rail Connect for ticket booking, IRCTC eCatering for meal delivery, Rail Madad for feedback, UTS for unreserved tickets, and the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) for real-time train tracking. This new unified app will consolidate all these functions.
The app’s rollout is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing digital transformation strategy, aimed at enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency. By streamlining services, the “super app” will act as a one-stop solution for all railway-related needs, eliminating the need for multiple apps and making it easier for passengers to book tickets, track trains, and access other amenities.
Another recent change announced by the Ministry of Railways allows passengers to book tickets 60 days in advance, down from the previous 120 days, excluding the journey date. This policy update took effect this month.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on February 2, 2024, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that Indian Railways is actively leveraging digital technology to modernize customer interfaces and improve the overall travel experience. The super app represents a significant step in this modernization drive, enhancing convenience and efficiency for millions of daily railway passengers across India.
