India’s Air Travel Soars: 25,610 Weekly Flights Approved for Summer 2025
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved the Summer Schedule 2025, bringing a slight rise in domestic flight operations. From March 30 to October 25, 2025, airlines will operate 25,610 weekly departures, up from 25,007 in the Winter Schedule 2024.
Flights will now operate to and from 129 airports, compared to 124 in the previous schedule. New airports added include Ambikapur, Datia, Bidar, Porbandar, Pakyong, Rewa, and Solapur. However, operations from Azamgarh and Rupsi airports have been suspended.
The schedule was finalized after the slot conference in February 2025, with final clearances from airport operators.

Growth in Domestic Air Travel
India’s domestic air travel is witnessing steady growth. In February 2025, scheduled airlines carried 1.40 crore passengers, compared to 1.26 crore in February 2024, according to DGCA data. .

IndiGo remains the market leader with a 63.7% share, flying 89.40 lakh passengers. The Air India Group, including Air India Express, carried 38.30 lakh passengers, holding a 27.3% market share.
