IndiGo flight 6E-2235 departed from Delhi’s IGI Airport at 7:35 pm on its scheduled route to Varanasi. Shortly after takeoff, passengers began noticing issues with the cabin’s temperature as the air conditioning system malfunctioned. Despite repeated complaints from passengers, the crew assured them that the AC would be fixed soon. However, the issue persisted throughout the entire flight, which lasted just over an hour.
Passengers reported using magazines to fan themselves, as the increasing heat inside the cabin made breathing difficult. Three female passengers required oxygen support and were treated by the crew during the flight. Upon landing in Varanasi at 8:40 pm, they were taken to the hospital by relatives.
The situation sparked anger among passengers, who accused the airline and crew of negligence. Many claimed that the AC had been off even before takeoff, but their concerns were dismissed with reassurances that it would be turned on after takeoff. The passengers criticized IndiGo for risking their safety and called for better maintenance of aircraft to prevent such incidents in the future.
One passenger remarked, “We struggled to breathe for nearly an hour, and the crew didn’t seem to care. It’s frightening to think about what could have happened if the situation had worsened.”
IndiGo has yet to issue a formal statement addressing the incident. However, media reports indicate that the airline acknowledged the AC failure but has not clarified what caused the malfunction. The airline is expected to conduct an internal investigation into the incident to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Passengers raised concerns about the lack of proper ventilation at high altitudes, which contributed to the breathing difficulties many faced during the flight. The failure to provide adequate air conditioning, coupled with reduced oxygen levels at high altitudes, poses serious health risks.
The distressing incident on IndiGo flight 6E-2235 serves as a reminder of the importance of diligent aircraft maintenance and quick responses to in-flight emergencies. Passengers are now demanding accountability from IndiGo, calling on the airline to ensure such malfunctions are addressed promptly to avoid endangering lives.
