Actor John Abraham recently shared insights into his middle-class background and how it continues to shape his life, despite his considerable wealth and successful career. In a conversation on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, John discussed his commitment to a simple lifestyle, stating that he prioritizes “value-creation over wealth-creation.” He emphasized that living modestly remains important to him, even with significant financial success.

John noted that his entire wardrobe fits into a single suitcase, and he drives a pickup truck instead of indulging in luxury vehicles, despite suggestions from his driver to do so. He believes that spending excessively on depreciating assets like expensive cars is unnecessary, especially when his daily life and work do not require it. “I’m cautious about spending due to my background,” he explained, adding that his reluctance to spend on luxury items stems from his upbringing.

Reflecting on his childhood, John spoke about witnessing his parents’ financial struggles and how it impacted him. He recalled a period of hardship when his father, an architect, was defrauded by a business partner, leading to significant stress and financial strain. This experience, combined with attending school with wealthier peers, fueled his frustration with income inequality. Despite these challenges, John values the lessons he learned from his parents, particularly the principles of simplicity and honesty. He remembered promising his father during a tough time, “Dad, don’t worry. You see this face? I’ll sell it one day,” which underscored his resolve.

John Abraham’s career began as a model before he gained fame as a leading actor. He continues to be guided by the values instilled by his parents and will soon appear in the film Vedaa, directed by Nikkhil Advani.
