Pune: An indefinite hunger strike has been called by Katraj citizens & Katraj Vikas Aghadi on December 12 (Tuesday) to protest against no developments in the area by the Pune Municipal Corporation and more issues.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a participant in the hunger strike said, “Katraj area has been included under PMC since the last 25 years. However, no DP (Development Plan) has been made for the Katraj area. So, a lot of unauthorized constructions, water supply issues, and much more are there. The pressure of water supply in Katraj is very low & it is not timely at all. Another issue is that of the traffic menace. The current flyover plan is not correct as it will cover only one side of traffic. Also, the flyover is descending & ending at such a place where traffic will increase which may lead to accidents. Hence, the flyover must be extended up to Katraj Dairy, Old Pune-Satara Road area or a grade separator has to be created.”

The participant further added, “A lot of factories are there in Katraj. There are a lot of electricity problems in Katraj. There is a 10-acre cow grazing land (Gayran) in Katraj to use for creating water tanks & powerhouse for electricity. However, PMC hasn’t done anything about it either. Another issue is of property cards as they haven’t been issued for properties in several areas of Katraj Vasahat, Upper Indira Nagar, and many more. Along with these, several other issues are there. Hence, this hunger strike has been started by Katraj Vikas Aghadi.”

As per further information, around 250 to 300 Katraj citizens have participated in this hunger strike happening at Katraj Chowk. The PMC has only given promises on paper but nothing has been implemented on the ground.

Thus, the hunger strike will continue like this till all demands of the citizens & Katraj Vikas Aghadi are met.
