The Hathras incident came as a shock to the entire nation. In order to avoid any such incident in the city, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police took a note of the security situation in the city; in form of a presentation at Auto Cluster, in presence of Commissioner of Police (IPS) Krishna Prakash.
Ever since IPS Krishna Prakash donned the role of Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Police he has largely stressed on the need to strengthen the Community Policing. In many interactions with Pune Pulse, he explained how Community Policing can help the Police maintain law, order and security of the city. However, after the Hathras incident, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner immediately set up a meeting with all the Police official and the head of the departments to review the security of the city and strengthen the women cell.

Upon speaking with Senior Police Insepctor Vivek Mugalikar, Wakad Police station he informed that the meeting involved a presentation by all the officials from women cell. API Sapana Deotale represented the Wakad Police station and gave a presentation on the women safety. “The main objective of the meeting was to take preventive measures against the to avoid incidents like Hathras in Pune,” said SPI Mugalikar.
Upon speaking with Bharosa Cell and Women safety in charge of Wakad Police station, API Sapna Deotale said, “We discussed ways to ensure the safety of women in our society and the city. Some of us have also given suggestions like ‘Panic Button’ at public spaces, webinars for schools and colleges and conducting street plays.”
A suggestion to install ‘Panic Button’ in the public spaces was given by social worker and chairman of Pimpri Chinchwad Citizens Federation (PCCF) Tejaswini Dhomse. She suggested that not every time a woman’s phone must be working and hence when she feels danger around her she can just run and press the button installed at any given public space. So that, the officials, too, can track the woman and the place.
Pune Pulse reached out to IPS Krishna Prakash, who said, “We have received inputs from many officers heading the women cell. However, no plan has been chalked out yet. Once we study the suggestions and track the high-risk places, we will immediately implement our best strategy to deal with women offenders.”
