In a unique initiative, the Supreme Court of India decided to host a special screening of the film ‘Laapataa Ladies’.
As part of the activities organized during the 75th year of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India, the movie Laapataa Ladies’ which is based on the theme of gender equality, was screened on Friday, August 9, 2024.
Kiran Rao, who has directed the movie, and Aamir Khan, Producer, were also present during the screening. Ahead of the screening, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was welcomed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud at the apex court.
The film was shown to judges and their families in the Auditorium of the C-block within the Administrative Building Complex. The Officials of the Registry were also invited for the movie.
The schedule of the screening was as follows:
Arrival of the Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Judges with their spouses – 3.45 pm
Tea in Judges’ Dining Hall (Third Floor) – 3.45 to 4.10 pm
Screening of movie – 4.15 to 6.20 pm
Interaction with Kiran Rao and Amir Khan – 6.20 to 6.35 pm
The film features Nitashi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava in the lead, along with Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma in pivotal roles.
It was released in theaters on March 1. While the film didn’t work well at the box office, it got a great response when it was released on the OTT platform Netflix.
