Pune City Police have registered a case against a law student from a reputed college in Pune for allegedly making objectionable remarks about Prophet Muhammed in a video post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Authorities have booked the student under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for promoting enmity, outraging religious sentiments, and making statements conducive to public mischief.

The FIR was filed at Vimantal police station following a complaint lodged by constable Chandrakant Gurav. The complaint was based on multiple applications from activists who sought action against the student, who is believed to be in her early 20s.

According to police, they were alerted on May 15 about a video containing offensive language shared from a profile that identified the user as a law student. However, by the time a preliminary investigation was carried out, the original post had been deleted. Despite this, several users had already shared and commented on the post, demanding legal action.

After reviewing these reposted videos, police determined that the content contained offensive statements regarding Prophet Muhammed and proceeded to register a formal case.

Vimantal police station is conducting an investigation and a search has been launched to locate the accused.
