A 50-year-old farmer, identified as Latabai Baban Dhawade, was killed in a leopard attack in Kadethan village, Pune district, on Saturday afternoon.

As per information, Latabai was working on a sugarcane farm around 2 pm when the leopard attacked and dragged her away. She succumbed to the injuries. Latabai is survived by her husband and two children.

The incident has left the local community in shock. Forest officials confirmed the attack and noted that such incidents are becoming more frequent.

This is the second leopard attack in Daund Taluka within a month. On November 17, a three-month-old baby, Vishnu Gaikwad, was killed in Boripardhi village. The baby’s mother, a sugarcane farm laborer, had placed him in a cradle near the field while she worked.

Around 4 pm, a leopard attacked the baby and dragged him into the fields. Laborers chased the animal, forcing it to abandon the baby. Despite efforts to save him, the child died from his injuries at the hospital.

Both attacks occurred during daylight. Leopard presence in the region has increased and necessary measures are being taken including installing trap cages and raising awareness among villagers.

The increasing leopard attacks have sparked fear among residents. Authorities have urged caution and cooperation in ongoing efforts to address the issue.
