Pune – The recent spell of rainfall in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad has brought with it a series of tragic incidents due to lightning strikes, claiming two lives in the past week.

In Pimpri-Chinchwad, a 19-year-old youth tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning while returning home amidst the rainfall. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, adding to the growing concerns over the dangers posed by sudden thunderstorms and lightning in the region.

This tragic event follows closely on the heels of another fatal lightning strike that took place three days earlier in Rajgurunagar, Pune district. In this incident, a woman lost her life while harvesting groundnuts. The woman, along with her two sisters-in-law, was on her way home amid the rainfall and strong winds when the lightning struck, resulting in the fatality.

These incidents highlight the increasing risks associated with severe weather conditions, particularly during the monsoon season. Local authorities have issued advisories urging residents to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms, including avoiding open fields and seeking shelter indoors.
