As Maharashtra gears up for its Assembly elections, two key documents that every candidate and political party must submit are Form A and Form B. These forms are crucial for ensuring that a candidate officially represents a political party and can use the party’s symbol during the elections. Voting is set to take place on November 20, with counting on November 23.

What is Form A?

Form A is a communication from a recognized national or state political party, or a registered political party, to the returning officer of the constituency or the Chief Electoral Officer of the state. It lists the names of the party officials who can officially nominate candidates. This form is sent by the party president or secretary and must carry their signature and the party’s official seal.

Form B is the letter submitted by the party’s designated official (whose name was mentioned in Form A) to the Returning Officer. This letter officially nominates the party’s candidate for a particular constituency and confirms that they are eligible to contest under the party’s symbol.

One of the common reasons for nomination rejections is the late submission of Form A and Form B, or incomplete paperwork. Officials note that these delays or incomplete affidavits often cause nominations to be dismissed. National parties generally submit these forms without issues, but if submitted after the deadline, the forms are rejected.

Therefore, Form A and Form B are critical for candidates to be recognized as official party nominees and to use the party’s symbol in the elections. Every candidate strives to ensure their forms are submitted correctly to avoid being disqualified.
