Maharashtra gov ban plastic coated laminated goods

Pune: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday announced a ban on the production and use of plastic-coated and laminated goods in Maharashtra.
The central government has banned single use plastic from July 1, 2022 and Chief Minister Shinde has given instructions to strictly implement this ban in the state. Due to this decision of the state government, Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to ban single use plastic.
An empowered committee was appointed for effective implementation of plastic ban in the state. The committee had decided to amend the Maharashtra Plastic and Thermocol Products Notification 2018 in its meeting held on July 7.

Accordingly, the state government vide notification dated July 15, 2022 has also banned plastic coated and plastic coated products.
After this amendment, there will be a ban on disposable dishes, cups, plates, glasses, forks, bowls, containers, etc., made of paper or aluminum etc. with plastic coating and plastic layer (laminated) in the state. The main objective behind the ban is to reduce plastic waste in daily waste.
The amount of plastic in the daily waste in the cities and rural areas of the state is significant, and decomposition of the waste is practically not possible. This waste is dumped in waste depots, reservoirs or as recycling is not possible, this waste is burnt directly at night.
At present, the use of cups, plates, bowls, spoons, containers etc. in single use plastic is banned in the state. But currently plastic coated or plastic laminated products are widely used in the market under the name of paper like dishes, containers, glasses, cups etc.
All these items also contain plastic. The ban has been taken to curb the influx of substandard plastics that pose a threat to decomposition.
