Pune: The Maharashtra government has announced a major initiative to conserve and restore ancient Jain pilgrimage sites, reaffirming its commitment to preserving the community’s rich cultural and religious heritage. The announcement was made by Lalit Gandhi, president of the Jain Minority Development Economic Corporation, during a recent event in Nagpur.
Government Support for Jain Heritage Conservation
Speaking at the gathering, Gandhi emphasized that while past efforts have been made to safeguard old Jain scriptures, financial constraints had limited progress. However, with renewed government support, he assured that the conservation of these historical texts and sites will now be a top priority.

Additionally, Gandhi stressed the importance of religious education, particularly in Prakrit, a classical language now recognized by the central government. Schools teaching Prakrit will receive subsidies to promote its learning and preservation.

Lalit Gandhi, in his capacity as president of the Jain Minority Development Economic Corporation, appointed Pendhari to oversee these efforts.
