In celebration of Maharashtra Day, Pune has announced plans to introduce fifteen brand-new electric air-conditioned buses on its popular route between Mumbai and Pune starting May 1. These new buses, which will reportedly replace the currently in-service Shivneri buses, will set to bring a new era of sustainable and comfortable transportation to the region.

Under a contract with EveryTrans, the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will purchase 100 of the almost 150 AC electric buses that will be provided. While the fifteen buses have already arrived in Pune, the formal delivery to MSRTC is still pending.

These state-of-the-art electric buses will be stationed at the bus depot of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and will soon be integrated into MSRTC‘s fleet. With their quiet, comfortable, and emission-free operations, these buses are expected to make a positive impact on the environment and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.

Featuring a maximum seating capacity of 43 passengers, these buses are designed for long-distance travel with convenient pushback features. They are also equipped with modern amenities such as TV and WiFi for passengers’ entertainment and convenience. Each seat is equipped with a charger and a USB port, ensuring that passengers can stay connected throughout their journey. Additionally, the buses have a five-cubic-meter luggage capacity, making them ideal for travelers with luggage.

“The introduction of these new electric buses is a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions in the region. As Maharashtra Day approaches, Pune’s initiative to adopt electric buses marks a positive move towards a greener and more eco-friendly future for the state” said Ramakant Gaikwad, Pune division controller, MSRTC.Â
