Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Predicts Unseasonal Rain, Hail in Pune, Other Regions

Pune, Maharashtra Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an unseasonal rain and hailstorm alert across several districts in Maharashtra, including Pune, over the next two days. Following a forecast of widespread rainfall, multiple regions witnessed heavy downpours and hail on Sunday.

While several parts of India continue to battle an intense heatwave, pockets of Maharashtra are experiencing contrasting weather patterns. Regions like Vidarbha are still under heatwave conditions, but unseasonal rainfall is now offering temporary relief in other parts. The IMD has warned of continued rainfall and hail in parts of the state, attributing it to a low-pressure system moving from western Rajasthan towards northern Vidarbha.

Rain, Hailstorm Reported Across Districts

Heavy showers with hail were reported in districts such as Jalgaon, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Nanded on Sunday. Jalgaon, in particular, experienced sudden downpours from 1:30 PM onwards after a cloudy morning. The IMD had previously predicted this spell of unseasonal rainfall.

On Monday, rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h is likely in Nandurbar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed. Following this, Latur, Dharashiv, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Yavatmal are also expected to receive heavy rain.

Mumbai, Pune and Konkan Region to See Light to Moderate Rainfall

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Sindhudurg over the next two days. Cloudy skies have already taken over Mumbai, indicating a shift towards rainy conditions.

Heatwave Conditions Still Persist

Despite the arrival of rain in some areas, high temperatures remain a concern. Daytime temperatures continue to hover around 40°C in many districts. However, coastal regions have shown a slight but consistent drop in temperatures over the last few days. Rainfall has brought temporary relief, but clear skies post-showers are again driving up the mercury levels.

Weather Outlook

The IMD attributes the current weather dynamics to the now-dissipated low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and a newly active low-pressure trough from western Rajasthan to northern Vidarbha. Rising temperatures have also intensified evaporation, creating ideal conditions for localized rain and hailstorms.
