Mahayuti’s Ladki Bahin Scheme Pays Off, Wins Hearts of Women Voters in Pune

Maharashtra Government To Re-Verify 1% Of Ladki Bahin Applications
In a remarkable turnaround, the Mahayuti alliance swept the Pune district, winning 18 out of 21 seats, thanks in large part to its flagship initiative, the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. This scheme, launched after the Mahayuti’s drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls, proved to be a game-changer, wooing female voters and helping the alliance script a remarkable comeback.
The scheme, modeled on the successful Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh, provides ₹1,500 per month to women aged between 21 and 60 years, with annual family incomes below ₹2.5 lakh. The Mahayuti alliance promised to hike the amount to ₹2,100 per month if re-elected, which clearly resonated with women voters.
Pune district witnessed an unprecedented turnout of women voters, with a significant 8.78% rise in the number of women voters compared to the Lok Sabha elections. In five assembly constituencies within the city, the percentage of women voters was higher than men. The heightened enthusiasm among women voters on polling day was reflected in the voting statistics, making it clear that women’s votes played a decisive role in electing the new MLAs in Pune.
The success of the Ladki Bahin scheme can be attributed to its focus on empowering women and providing them with financial independence. By targeting women from low-income families, the scheme addressed a critical need and resonated with women voters.
As Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde acknowledged, the Ladki Bahin scheme was a key factor in the Mahayuti alliance’s victory. The scheme’s impact was evident in the polling results, with women voters turning out in large numbers to support the alliance.
With the Mahayuti alliance’s landslide victory in Pune, it is clear that the Ladki Bahin scheme has paid off, winning the hearts of women voters and cementing the alliance’s position in the state.
