Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link: Know the toll charges to be taken for cars

Transport experts advocate for making the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Road toll-free for public transport. They suggest imposing higher charges on private cars to discourage their use.

As the impending inauguration of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) or Sewri Nhava Sheva Trans Harbour Link draws near, a compelling call is emerging to designate this crucial connector as toll-free for public transport.

In the eyes of transportation experts, a proposed flat rate of Rs 500 per vehicle is suggested for cars, while advocating for private public transport with more than 10 seats to be exempt from toll charges.

This proposal aims to strike a balance between generating revenue for the infrastructure and facilitating the seamless movement of larger-capacity public transportation, aligning with the broader goals of sustainability and efficient urban mobility.

This would discourage the use of private cars and make public transport a more sustainable option,” said Sudhir Badami, a transport expert and member of the toll rate committee of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

Notably, the state government is yet to announce the toll rate for the road.
